Each senior at McNairy Central will complete a Senior Project as a
requirement for credit in English IV. The purpose of the project is to
allow the student to demonstrate the knowledge and maturity that he/she
has gained during the course of his/her education, particularly while at
McNairy Central. The Senior Project is made up of four components: a
research paper, a product, a portfolio and a presentation. Three of
these components (paper, portfolio, and presentation) will not be
completed until the spring semester.
Paperwork Submission
There are several forms that you must complete and submit to your
advisor (homeroom teacher) over the next few weeks. Each of these forms
will be given to you by your homeroom teacher and should be completed
and returned by the due date.
Product
You should begin working on your product as soon as your proposal is
accepted. Completing the product during the first semester reduces your
workload in the spring and will make the whole project easier. The fall
semester is your opportunity to focus on the product. Every effort
should be made to complete the product by December 31, 2007.
Time Management
Most of the stress associated with Senior Projects is due to waiting
until the last minute. There are approximately 240 days (5,760 hours)
until presentation day. You are required to spend a minimum of 15 hours
completing your product. Spend a few minutes per day or an hour a week
working on your product and it will be complete long before the due
date. The same concept applies to the research paper, portfolio, and
presentation preparation. Ample time has been built into the
schedule for you to complete all the work without being rushed - IF you
take advantage of that time. Meet the deadlines, and do not
wait until the last minute. Be in the group who finish early and can
relax while the procrastinators scramble to complete their projects.
Any student who misses the deadline for any document in the fall will
be assigned to Senior Project help class during homeroom until he/she
has satisfactorily gotten back on track.
