Family, Career, & Community Leaders of AmericaFCCLA What is FCCLA?Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private school through grade 12. Everyone is part of a family, and FCCLA is the only national Career and Technical Student Organization with the family as its central focus. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education.
How do I become a member? In order to become a member at the local, regional & state levels, a student must be enrolled in, currently taking or have taken a Family & Consumer Science (FCS) course while in high school. These courses consist of the following: Child & Lifespan Development - 1 credit Family & Consumer Science - 1 credit Housing & Interior Design - 1 credit Nutrition & Foods - 1 credit Textiles & Apparel - 1 credit
What happens once I have a FCS class?Once a students knows they are enrolled, have already taken or are currently taking one of the above courses, they should then attend the kickoff meeting for FCCLA. This meeting is usually held in late August or early September. Announcements will be made on the time and place.
Why should I join FCCLA?FCCLA is a great way to become involved in an organization that has been around for many, many years. Some of your parents were probably involved in FCCLA which was formerly known as Future Homemakers of America (FHA) or Home Economics. In 2010, this organization celebrates its 65th anniversary. It truly has stood the test of time and is continuing to grow and develop with each new generation. Don't wait, be part of FCCLA today! Who knows the friendships you will make or the skills you will learn!
