Scholarship Information 2011 - 2012 The following scholarships are available to students at MCHS if they meet the eligibility requirements for the individual scholarships. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Deadline: October 8 American Liberty Scholarship - Applicants are randomly drawn each month to qualify as a finalist for a $5000 scholarship. Apply: www.americanlibertyscholarship.com AXA Achievement Community Scholarship - This program offers $2000 scholarships to high school seniors who have demonstrated outstandindg achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace. Deadline; TBA Available online: www.axa-achievement.com Best Buy Scholarship Program - 1,000 scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded. Students need solid grades and volunteer community service or work experience. Go to the web site to read a complete list of rules and guidelines. Applicants must have maintained a 2.5 GPA, work part-time for a minimum of 10 hours per week or 40 weeks per year, be actively involved in community service activities, demonstrate financial need, and plan to enroll i an accredited two/or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school by Fall of the application year. Deadline: TBA http://www.haveityourwayfoundation.org/bksp_application.html COCA-COLA SCHOLARS PROGRAM - Seniors in high school who qualify may apply for one of 250 four-year, achievement based scholarships. A minimum GPA of a 3.00 is required through the end of the junior year.Applicants may not be children or grandchildren of employees of Coca Cola bottling companies. National scholar finalists receive awards of $20,000 for college, and Regional scholar finalists receive $10,000 for college. Dependent Children Scholarship - This is for children of Tennessee law enforcement officers, firemen or emergency medical technicians who wer killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty. Financial need is determined by FAFSA. www.TN.gov/collegepays Discover Card Scholarship Program - The Discover Scholarship Program awards up to $300,000 in scholarships annually to high school juniors nationwide to support continued education and training beyond high school. Juniors must have at least a 2.75 GPA, demonstrate leadership and community service, and have overcome a challenge. Deadline:TBA Applications available on-line: http://www.discoverfinancial.com/community/scholarship.shtml Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) Student Essay Contest - Seniors may enter the student essay contest by writing an in-depth essay explaining why free speech and First Amendment rights are crucial to higher education and how abuses of these rights harm the college experience. First place is a $5,000 college scholarship with other awards. The second place scholarship is $2,500, and five runner up students will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Apply online: www.thefire.org/contests Deadline: November 1 Horatio Alger Association Scholarship - The American Electric Power Foundation sponsors the Horatio Alger Association Scholarship for students who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. Scholarships range in value from $2,500 to $20,000. Apply online: www.horatioalger.com/scholarships Deadline: October 30 Imagine America Scholarships - These $1000 scholarships are available for incoming students in a career college, such as Nashville Auto Diesel College and others. No deadline. Applications available on-line: www.imagine-america.org Institute of Hair Design - In Adamsville, the Institute of Hair Design offers a $2000 scholarship for students in cosmetology. Apply on-line: www.ihd4me.com The Lowe's Scholarship - Lowe's will offer (140) $2500 scholarships to high school seniors for the fall of 2011-01. A GPA of 3.25 must be maintained. The application will be available on the 1st of January , 2012. Deadline: TBA www.lowe's.com/college_recuiting_scholarship.aspx#1 Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year Awards Scholarship - If you are a student who is on top of his or her game when it comes to academics, sports, and community service, then you have the chance to be one of 25 student-athletes to win a $7,500 scholarship, a trip to Disney World and a spot in a special Milk Mustache ad to run in USA TODAY and other publications. Grade: 12 Deadline: TBA Applications available on-line: bodybymilk.com Securities Division 2010-11 Essay Contest - Seniors will write an essay on the topic of social media (such as Facebook or Twitter) and how it has been an influence; how it has contributed to the developing of goals and financial plans for the future. The website outlines the specifics of the essay. There will be two winners in each division of the state - east, middle, and west. First place winners will receive a $2000 savings bond and second place will receive a $1000 savings bond. www.tn.gov/commerce/securities Deadline: December 5 Shering-Pough Will to Win Scholarship Program - Candidates are outstanding high school seniors who are disciplined, determined, and successful in managing asthma. Ten $5000 scholarships are available. Deadline: TBA www.shering-ploughwilltowin.com Student View Scholarship - Seniors can go online and register for a random drawing of scholarships. It is not based on need or academic excellence. Online: www.student-view.com U. S. Bank Internet Scholarship Program - This scholarship is a RANDOM DRAWING! Seniors go online for a chance to win one of forty $1,000 scholarships. Registration is from October through March. Deadline: TBA Applications available on-line: usbank.com/studentloans WalMart Scholarship - is available for seniors who have at least a 2.5 GPA and have taken the ACT. Applicants who are employed by WalMart or who have parents who are employed by WalMart are not eligible. Information is available after Nov. 1, 2011.. Application is available www.walmartfoundation.org/scholarship Wilder-Naifeh Technical Skills Grant - Up to $2000 is available to students who enroll at a Tennessee Technology Center (TTC) in a certificate or diploma program. Must not have been a prior recipient of the HOPE Scholarship. Submit FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov) in January and apply to TTC before Fall Semester. Young Entrepreneur Award Program – A minimum of 150 scholarships including non-renewable and renewable awards ranging in value of $1,000 to $10,000 are available to high school seniors who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and initiative through examples as: starting his/her own business; participating in organizations such as DECA, FBLA, FFA and others. Scholarships are merit based, not need-based. High academic standards in GPA’s and ACT scores are important in the selection process. Deadline: December 15 Apply online: www.NFIB.com/YEA |
