  • Friday, March 5 - Will R. Manier, Jr. Memorial Rotary Scholarship*,.    The application is available in guidance  for any senior who does not have a parent as a member of the local Rotary Club.

    • UT Knoxville is currently accepting applications for the 2010 VeterinarySummer Experience Program. There is no cost to participate. To apply, a student must: be a resident of TN & enrolled in a TN high school, be 16 by June 7, 2010, have completed 10th grade by June 7, 2010, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, be available for full time employment between June 7-July 30, have not previously participated in the program.  Further information and application materials may be obtained at www.vet.utk.edu/summerexperience.

     

    Scholarship Information 2009 - 2010

    The following scholarships are available to students at MCHS if they meet the eligibility requirements for the individual scholarships.  Applications are available online, in guidance, or through the corporate sponsor/individual of the scholarship. Some scholarships may be subject to availability of funds in the given year.

    Abbott and Fenner Scholarship - This scholarship is available to seniors who submit an essay between 500 and 1000 words. The current topic can be found online.     AXA Achievement Community Scholarship - This program offers $2000 college scholarships to high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace.     American Cancer Society College Scholarship - These $1000 to $3000 scholarships are available for students who were diagnosed with cancer before the age of 21 and have at least a GPA of 2.5.  Deadline: April 10  Available online:  www.cancer.com

    Ayn Rand - Fountainhead Essay Contest - Fountainhead contains many elements that appeal strongly to young readers. They are inspiring and exciting stories, with heroic characters fighting for their ideals. The novel portrays events with profound and timeless significance, challenging readers to decide not just what will happen to particular characters, but what their own lives and the world should be like.     Best Buy Scholarship Program - 1,000 scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded. Students need solid grades and volunteer community service or work experience.     Bird Dog Foundation Scholarship - The scholarship is based on an essay written and submitted to be eligible for a $1500 or $1000 scholarship. The topics are on the web site. www.birddogfoundation.com  Deadline: April 15, 2010

    Burger King Scholars Scholarship - $1,000 scholarships offered to eligible seniors. Applicants must have maintained a 2.5 GPA, work part-time for a minimum of 10 hours per week or 40 weeks per year, be actively involved in community service activities, demonstrate financial need, and plan to enroll i an accredited two/or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school by Fall of the application year.     Casey Family Scholarships for Foster / Orphaned Youth - Applicants for this scholarship must have been in foster care for one consecutive year at the time of their 18th birthday and be accepted to a post secondary school. Apply online:  www.orphan.org  Deadline: March 31.

    DECA Scholarships  - These scholarships are available to DECA members through corporate sponsors. Work experience and a desire to major in business, marketing or hospitality are required.     Discover Card Scholarship Program - The Discover Scholarship Program awards up to $300,000 in scholarships annually to high school juniors nationwide to support continued education and training beyond high school.  Juniors must have at least a 2.75 GPA, demonstrate leadership and community service, and have overcome a challenge.  Deadline:January 31, 2010 Applications available on-line: http://www.discoverfinancial.com/community/scholarship.shtml

    Dixie Youth Scholarships - These $2000 scholarships only require that a senior played for a Dixie Youth Team at any time prior to age 12. Deadline: March 1, 2010  Applications online: www.dixie.org or girls www.softball.dixie.org

    FastWeb / Free Scholarship Search - This web site will do a free customized on-line scholarship search. Parents will want to help their student fill out the questionnaire as there are questions pertaining to parents. Students may pick up an information sheet in guidance.  Deadline:none

    Imagine America Scholarships - These $1000 scholarships are available for incoming students in a career college, such as Nashville Auto Diesel College and others. No deadline. Applications available on-line:  www.imagine-america.org

    Institute of Hair Design - In Adamsville, the Institute of Hair Design offers a $2000 scholarship for students in cosmetology. Apply on-line:  www.ihd4me.com

    KFC Colonel's Scholars Program - KFC Colonel's Scholars is looking for high school seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit to qualify for the up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board. To qualify, graduating high school seniors must : earn a 2.75 GPA, enroll in a public college in TN, pursue a bachelor's degree at a four year college, be a US citizen, and demonstrate financial need.   Deadline: February 10, 2010

    Miss Cheerleader of America Scholarship - Available to high school cheerleaders. Applications online:  www.misscheerleaderofamerica.com

    Monsanto Scholarships - These are one time scholarship awards of $1500 to a senior who comes from a farm family and plans to major in agriculture. Deadline is Mid-February. Applications are available online at  www.monsanto.com

    Ned McWherter Scholars Program - This scholarship is intended to encourage academically superior Tennessee high school graduates to attend college in Tennessee. Tennessee high school seniors starting their last semester in high school may apply. Recipients are RANDOMLY DRAWN. To be eligible, the applicants must be a resident of Tennessee, a U.S. citizen and attend an eligible Tennessee college, and have at least a 3.5 unweighted GPA and a minimum 29 on the ACT or 1280 on the SAT (math and critical reading). This $6,000 a year scholarship is renewable.     Prom Wishes Scholarship Program - Eleven one-time scholarships of $5000 to $1000 will be given nationwide to seniors who excel in talent, leadership, and academic achievement. Deadline: March 31  www.pr.com

    Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program - This scholarship is intended to promote student excellence and achievement and to recognize exceptional students who show promise of continued excellence. The award is based on federal funding. Recipients are RANDOMLY DRAWN. To be eligible, the applicants must be a Tennessee resident who meets citizenship requirements, and have at least a 3.5 GPA or a 3.0 GPA and a 24 composite score on the ACT or 1090 SAT (math and critical reading).     Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year Awards Scholarship - If you are a student who is on top of his or her game when it comes to academics, sports, and community service, then you have the chance to be one of 25 student-athletes to win a $7,500 scholarship, a trip to Disney World and a spot in a special Milk Mustache ad to run in USA TODAY and other publications.     SESPTC Scholarship - This is a one time scholarship of $1000 available to children of parent employees of public school transportation. It is need based and requires a GPA of at least a 3.0. Deadline: April 15  Available online:  www.tapt.org

    Shering-Pough Will to Win Scholarship Program - Candidates are outstanding high school seniors who are disciplined, determined, and successful in managing asthma. Ten $5000 scholarships are available. Deadline: TBA  www.shering-ploughwilltowin.com

    Student Insights Scholarship - This scholarship is open to all college bound students and does not require a minimum ACT or SAT score. It is essay based. Deadline:  February 28. Applications available at  www.student-view.com

    Student View Scholarship - Seniors can go online and register for a random drawing of scholarships. It is not based on need or academic excellence. Online:  www.student-view.com

    Tennessee Burglar and Fire Alarm Association Youth Scholarship Program - This is available for children of active duty law enforcement and fire service employees. Call 1-800-829-6465 for information. Deadline:  March 1, 2010. Applications available on-line www.tbfaa.com

    Tennessee Education Association Sons and Daughters Don Sahli-Kathy Woodall Scholarship/ Future Teacher Scholarship  - This scholarship is available for children of TEA members who plan to enroll in a Tennessee college or university.     Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship - Apply with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application, available at www.fafsa.ed.gov The HOPE Scholarship provides $4,000 for 4 year institutions or $2,000 for 2 year institutions. Entering freshmen must have minimum of a 21 ACT (980 SAT) or an overall unsighted 3.0 GPA.     Tennessee Manufactured Housing Association Scholarship - the Stan and Thelma Plumlee Scholarship is an annual award by the TMHA. This is a four year scholarship worth $8,000. To qualify, a recipient must be associated with the manufactured housing industry in some way; either by living in a manufactured home, working in the industry, or by having a relative who works in the manufactured housing industry. the student must attend a Tennessee college, university or trade school.  Deadline: March 15, 2010 Applications available on-line: www.tnmha.net.

    U. S. Bank Internet Scholarship Program - This scholarship is a RANDOM DRAWING! Seniors go online for a chance to win one of forty $1,000 scholarships. Registration is from October through March.  Deadline: March 31, 2010 Applications available on-line: usbank.com/studentloans

    WalMart Scholarship - is available for seniors who have at least a 2.5 GPA and have taken the ACT. Applicants who are employed by WalMart or who have parents who are employed by WalMart are not eligible. Deadline is January 29, 2010. Application is available www.walmartfoundation.org/scholarship

    Washington Crossing Foundation Scholarship - Entrants must he seniors who are U.S. citizens and are planning career in government service. a broad definition of government service is used: Past winners include students who have gone on to become an army doctor, a high school teacher, a public prosecutor, and a member of the White House staff. Applicants must write an essay stating reason for deciding on a career in public service. Minimum 3.0 GPA required.  Deadline: January 15, 2010

    Local Scholarships

    Cancer Care Center Scholarship -  This is a $500 scholarship available to senior who have a minimum GPA of 2.5, minimum ACT score of 19. Children of employees of Cancer Care Center in Jackson are not eligible. Deadline: April 12  Applications in guidance.

    Dickson Presbyterian Technical School Scholarship - Available in guidance for seniors who plan to attend a two year technical / vocational school. Deadline: April 5.

    Dickson Presbyterian University Scholarship - Available in guidance for seniors who plan to attend a four-year university. Deadline: April 5

    Drs. Forbes, Merwin, and Youman's Scholarship - Available  for former patients. Contact the office in Jackson for applications.

    Jimmy Daniel Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship requires a 3.0 GPA and a 20 on the ACT as well as good moral character. Applications are available in guidance. Deadline: April 15

    Leon B. Blasingame Memorial Scholarship by Aqua Glass - Seniors who enroll at UTM are eligible. Deadline: March 15

    McNairy Central Career Technical Education Scholarship - Seniors who are concentrators in the career education department at MCHS and plan to enroll at a technical school are eligible to apply for this $250 scholarship. Application available in guidance. Deadline: April 1

    McNairy County Democrat Women Scholarship - This senior girl must have at least a 2.5 GPA and submit an essay . The application is available in guidance. Deadline: May 1

    McNairy County Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship - This is for seniors who wish to pursue a career in medicine and can show financial need. Applications are available at the hospital.

    McNairy County Education Association Scholarship - This is a scholarship for seniors who plan to major in education. Deadline: March 31

    McNairy County Retired Teachers Association - Available for seniors who plan to major in education. Applications are available in guidance. Deadline:  May 1

    McNairy County Soil Conservation District's Clyde S. Treece Agriculture Scholarship - This is available to seniors who plan to major in agriculture. Call 1-731-645-5466 for more information. Deadline: April 16

    Quinco Community Research Corporation Scholarship - This is available for seniors who plan to major in psychology, social work, counseling, nursing, medicine, or sociology. A GPA of 2.5 is required. Deadline: March 31

    Shelter Insurance Scholarship - These are for any senior. Applications are in guidance. Deadline: April 1

    Stephen Foster Music Club Scholarship - This scholarship is for students who excel in vocal or instrumental performance. Applications available in guidance. Deadline: March 1

    Southwest TN Realty Group Academic / Needs Scholarship - Seniors at MCHS are eligible for a one time $1000  scholarship based on financial need in addition to being in the top ten percentile of the graduating class.  Deadline:  March 31  Applications available in guidance.

    UTM / McNairy Center Scholarship - This is for residents of McNairy County who will attend UTM. For more information, call (731) 646-1636.

    William R. Manier Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship is presented by the Rotary Club. The senior must show evidence of leadership, extra-curricular activities, and financial need. The application is available in guidance. Deadline: March 15
